Meld Gallery: Features

Meld Gallery includes a wide range of features and options.

Features

  • Image Upload: Images can be uploaded directly, but Meld Gallery will also capture any images you have uploaded through the Mura Site Manager as well*.
  • Image Manager: Uploaded images can be filtered, sorted and paged. Meta data can include tags, summaries and descriptions, as well as urls.
  • Groups: Organizing your images is a snap with the Image Group manager. Easily sort and search through your groups, and add images through the light box browser.
  • Displays: Displays are an image source (such as an Image Group) packaged up in a gallery type. Displays are easily inserted on a Mura page, and you can place as many on a page as you desire.
  • Gallery Types: Meld Gallery includes 4 main types of gallery display, and each of these can be configured in a variety of ways.
  • Customization: Because each gallery type has its own unique settings, and each display has access to these settings, you can create an infinite number of gallery formats to suit your specific needs.
  • Feeds: Meld Gallery can use Mura Content Collections as a source for galleries. Simply choose the feed you desire, and Gallery will organize any images associated to the Feed into a gallery format of your choice. Depending upon the gallery type, the content will include links back to the pages in the feed.
  • Mura Galleries, Enhanced: You can still manage your galleries via the Mura Site Manager and have the choice to display them in one of the available Meld Gallery formats. Simply change the gallery type from "Gallery" to "Gallery / Meld" and Meld Gallery will take care of the rest!
  • Smart resizing: Meld Gallery includes a wide range of resizing and cropping options. You can re-size by height or width, crop, or even re-size the image first and then crop (which ensures the maximum percentage of the original image is retained).
  • Auto-cutting: To ensure the smallest file size and best quality image, Meld Gallery automatically cuts images from the original 'master' into the perfect shape and dimensions for each gallery.
  • User Friendly: One of the most complicated tasks for novice site managers is in controlling image sizes and uploads. By automating the process, users can simply upload their images of any size and be assured that they won't have a collection of huge images in their galleries.
  • Internationalization: Both the main application and individual gallery formats use resource bundles to display content. This makes it a snap for translating the administrator and front-end displays into almost any language.
  • Future Friendly: Because Gallery retains a 'master' image for every upload, changing the size or dimensions of your gallery displays won't mean having to re-upload all of your images.

Future Enhancements

We already have plans for the future of Meld Gallery. These include:

  • Multi-image uploads
  • Support for XML-based galleries (such as most Flash-based galleries)
  • External API support (both for adding images and supplying them to other Mura plugins)
  • And of course, many more gallery formats ...

 

*This does not include images uploaded as static content, such as those uploaded in the WYSIWYG editor.
